The NAACP believes strongly that future leaders must be developed today, and such development is ongoing in the Youth & College Division, created in 1936. Today there are more than 25,000 young people, under the age of 25, representing 700 Youth Councils, High School Chapters and College Chapters actively involved in the fight for civil rights. The NAACP has one of the largest organized groups of young people of any secular organization in the country.
The Los Angeles NAACP Youth Council extends a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all of our supporters. Your presence here today exemplifies that you are a "part of the village" that nurtures today's youths that will become tomorrow's leaders.
The things that you do in our communities enhance the minds of our
youths. Your achievements have defined that a total commitment is paramount to reaching the ultimate in performance. This is an act of encouragement for African American Youths to prepare for their future success. You have proven that the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and whether you win or lose, you have applied your best to the task at hand.
I believe that Determination, Character and Preparation are prerequisites to success. We honor these men as Men of Valor because they live out the true meaning of; "To succeed - do the best you can, where you are, with what you have". Our youths must not allow their ethnicity or environmental conditions define their level of achieving success. It is important that our youths realize that the difference between the impossible and the possible lies in their determination.
This honor is given to express sincere thanks for rending service that is an integral part of the preparatory stages for our youths' future success. This honor is given to you because you have earned it with excellence in the performance in your tangible and intangible donationsto mankind; especially to African Americans. We want you to know that what you do for the betterment of others does not go unnoticed.
"Keep Doing What You Are Doing, Because It's All Good".
Sincere thanks and best wishes.
